Lenovo’s been busy announcing some cheap, attractive machines with Intel Atom guts this morning. Hot off the heels of their press release for the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3S netbook, this comes sliding through the mail slot: the Lenovo C200, a gorgeous, low-cost, NVIDIA Ion 2 toting all-in-one. What’s important here is the NVIDIA Ion 2 chipset, which [...]

Ever since we first met Lenovo’s ThinkPad X100e at CES we’ve had it on a virtual pedestal as the perfect solution between a netbook and a larger 13- or 14-inch ULV ultraportable. That’s because in addition to carrying the renowned ThinkPad brand, its AMD Neo processor / ATI graphics combo promise more power than the typical Intel Atom N450-powered netbook, and with an 11.6-inch screen the …

Intel’s Atom processor family showed promise when it launched back in 2008, but it certainly wasn’t an ideal desktop platform. Atom is back with an integrated memory controller, on-die graphics, and a new two-chip configuration. But is it any better? Intel Atom - Intel Corporation - Hardware - Memory controller - processor

The NVIDIA ION platform gets a lot of credit for enabling 1080p video playback on low power computers with Intel Atom processors. But NVIDIA ION systems are also pretty good at playing some (but not all) video games. I’m not much of a hardcore gamer, so I’ve been testing systems like the Asus Eee Top ET2002 with Age of Mythology , a 7 year old game that happens to be the newest PC game in my collection. Dell has the new Inspiron 11z 11.6″ ultraportable laptop for just $434 ( order here and just add the $35 6-cell battery option). It’s much faster on the CPU and graphics than a Netbook but it’s priced like a Netbook. This is an Intel Celeron 743 45nm Core microarchitecture single core processor running at 1.3 GHz with a mere 10W TDP so the performance is better than the 1.6 GHz Atom processors used in Netbooks. The graphics chipset is the GS45 which absolutely annihilates the aging G945 chip
